Lake Washington Oil Spill - Implementation of UAS for the determination of optimal containment positioning.

A tribute to the crew of the USCG Brant, who helped with sampling experiments in the Gulf of Mexico. We implemented a cutting-edge multispectral UAS, which was developed with the support of BSEE. This is a great stride in our efforts to develop remote sensing technology for detection of oil spills.

Water Mapping ROV - Water Mapping ROV is rigged to measure and transmit on real time Fluorometry, Salinity, Temperature, Turbidity, and Depth. It can also collects water samples and its rated for 450ft water depth. This is a DTG2 model from Deeptrekker which can collect measurements and samples for up to 450ft.

Oil Spill Volume and Thickness calculations at MC20 April 2018 - This video is a summary of the activities carried out during the research cruise on April 2018 at the MC20 oil spill site in the Gulf of Mexico.

Calibration of Multispectral UAS - On this video we show our multispectral UAS system configuration. We use this UAS for developing algorithms for detection of different oil thicknesses.

Water Mapping, Oil sample collection for chemical and thickness measurements -

Influence of River Fronts on Oil Spill Transport (GOMRI) -Satellite-drifters study- This video is a summary of the field operations that took place on the Northern Gulf Mexico near the Taylor Energy Spill site. This expedition during the April, 2017 involved efforts from Water Mapping, LLC, University of Miami, University of South Florida, NOAA, NASA, Meteorologisk Institutt (Norway), and MDA Corporation (Canada). The purpose of this project is to understand the influence of the Mississippi River plume in the transport of the oil spill from the Taylor Energy site.

Oil Emulsification Process and Measurement of oil Thickness

UAS mapping oil - In this video we show the techniques for mapping floating oil with our UAS system.

Oil Spill Studies at Taylor - In this video we show observation from three different visits taken place during 2016 at the Taylor oil Spill site. This investigation is part of a research project for GOMRI.

Mapping Oil Spills with UAS (drones), Satellites, and drifters. In this video WaterMapping shows image processing and mapping techniques to monitor oil slicks using UAS (drones), different satellites, and drifters.

UAS ops August - UAS operations over oil spill in August 2017

UAS operations for mapping oil thicknesses - In this video we show Water Mapping UAS operations and techniques for mapping oil spills and oil/emulsion thicknesses. Here we show how the UAS telemetry and real-time video aids the operations of the responding vessel for tactical positioning during the spill response operations.

Research Cruise Taylor April 2017

UAS oil thickness mapping - This video shows the process of using super high resolution video, image processing algorithms, and the UAS flight telemetry to map oil  spill thickness.
